What are the Legal Issues? When a company agrees to become an internship site, it signs a Training Agreement with the individual school district. The Training Agreement also contains mutual “Hold Harmless” clauses that indemnify both the business and SLROP from legal complaints except in the case of willful negligence. School district insurance specifications include: - Intern worker’s compensation in the event of an injury on the job if they are enrolled in CC (unpaid).
- No position or worker in the business will be displaced as a result of CC interns training at the site.
Employers worker’s compensation insurance covers: - CVE (paid) interns who are employees of the company
Summary of Insurance for ROP Student Activities Liability insurance coverage for ROP students is limited to the same conditions as Workers’ Compensation insurance coverage. Workers’ compensation and liability insurance coverage is provided for unpaid ROP students in community classrooms, including related instruction at nonschool sites and in clinical, laboratory experiences conducted in community sites/agencies, courses conducted on school sites are not covered. The SLROP provides workers' compensation coverage to all public school districts of San Luis Obispo County under the School's Insurance Program for Employees (SIPE). ROP students who are in an employment-training program at a business site in the community are also covered for workers compensation by the self-insured Schools Insurance Program for Employees (SIPE) as long as they are not receiving wages or monetary compensation from the employer. |
